Critical Reading 480

Math 440

Writing 510

This is what i got without prep classes, studying, or taking any practice tests. I know if you calculate it, its a 59. So how bad a score is this and what can i do to make a higher grade? Classes?

  1. um thats what i got on mine and I think its a little bit below the average. but really it depends what school your trying to get into.. for example to Harvard that may mean your as dumb as a rock.. but for like a smaller more public school it may mean your average or above average.. just check what score the schools your interested in are looking for.

Right now im taking an online SAT prep class with Kaplan University. its $400 for the online course which is the cheapest. then for an actual class with a teacher it goes up to like $700. So I would suggest some sort of tutoring for the SAT.

  2. yeah, there are usually SAT prep classes you can take. I would reccomend doing that. Also, I would work on your math and critical reading sections the most, because some schools don't even look at writing yet. Check out the average test score list on Princeton Review so you can match up the schools you want to go to with what you've got. That will motivate you to work toward a better score. Not to mention give you a realistic idea as to where you have a chance of getting in.

  3. well i just took the sat for the first time and i got a 1600 exactly without really studying for long (maybe 45 minutes on the way there) but next time i would say actually study for about 3 weeks prior to the exam and take some classes to help you out.

  4. The question of good or bad depends on where you're applying.

To get a better sense for your chances as an applicant to a given school, look it up in a college guide or in College Board's College Search (collegesearch.collegeboard.com—index.js... While admissions committees do look at more than just GPA and SATs as they make admissions decisions, the numbers you find will nonetheless give you a sense for where you stand in the applicant pool.

As for improving your score, I've compiled some advice (some free options, some not) at the bottom of this page:

    Good luck!
