5 Months ago i bought a ford explorer (1992) from a person in my area in los angeles, and I didnt know i was supposed to take it to the dmv within 5 days. The tags are now expired as of today and Im wondering what the penalty would be for getting it registered and If i were to pay it would i get the stickers the same day or via mail?

Any help would be appriciated. Thanks.

  1. You really need to go to DMV and get the title in your name. That will be a transfer fee and the sales tax on your purchase price. The renewal will depend on the price you paid. There will be a penalty but not much. Your big expense will be sales tax. After 3 months, the renewal fee penalty will be about 50% of the fee.

By going into DMV, you will receive stickers at that time.
