  1. It depends on how deep the decay is. If it's just in the surface in the enamel and not near the dentin yet, then it wouldn't hurt at all. You'll just feel a lot of vibration. However, if the decay goes into the dentin, it would hurt quite a bit, so no dentist would proceed with that kind of filling without anesthetic of some kind.

  2. DO NOT DO IT! Your jaw will hurt and you will have rebound headaches from h**l for months. I doubt a dr would do it like that in this day and age.

  3. I broke my front teeth (#7 & #8) when I was ten. Pretty much 1/4 to 1/3 broke off the bottom middle.

I didn't want them to numb me up at all with a needle, and my jerk of a dentist was, well, a jerk, so they filed them and put the fillings (not crowns or veneers, wtf?? so many problems in the 11 years since) -- anyway! They filed/drilled/whatevered them and put the fillings on without any gas or anesthetic.

It hurt on the tooth, but only in a sharp, over in a second way. The worst part was when he was sanding or whatever with that little thing, and it touched the gum. OUCH.
