Im thinking about getting my ear pierced on the top area of my ear... through the cartilage. If you've ever gotten this done, how badly does it hurt on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst?

Thanks!

  1. I want to know too. I'm planning to my cartilage done sometime this or nxt week.

    Let's get some answers! :]

  2. well i have mine done three times and i would say its about a six. But i also have a high pain tolerance. You should go for it pain is temporary but if you like it, it is something that you could have forever.

  3. i would say a 2, if even that.  i think it hurts less than the regular ear piercing.

  4. I have one and it didn't hurt. I have a high tolerance for pain so I would say a 3.

  5. people say that getting the top part of ur ear hurts like u know what!!!!! they say thats like the most painful piercing, but of coarse it depends on ur pain tolerance.

i think that any kind of piercing u get is gonna hurt a little cuz it's a needle goin' through the skin.

  6. any cartilage piercing takes anywhere from 6 months to 1 year to heal. and in that time it is possible that your ear might get infected. most people that i know get it done cant sleep on that side for a month and you just have to be careful in general that you dont touch it.

  7. my sister just got her cartilage

pierced today! she said it hurt but not alot.

    dont worry too much.

  8. It varies from person to person. If you have a high pain tolerance [you deal with pain well] then I'd say it wouldn't really hurt that bad. I did both of mine myself, and they didn't hurt. The first one surprised me and the second one didn't hurt.

    I'd say about a 5.

  9. I would say when your actually getting it pierced an 5, but i deal with pain very well so maybe a 5 and a half. Its the pain after wards, when you get up and walk away, the pressure on your ear hurts like a 7 and you cant lay, sleep, or Brush your hair without being careful without it hurtting.

1 it does hurt more then the second hole, i wont lie.

2 it also take more time to heal or not hurt anymore.

    3. ALSO you have to leave the earring in for about 8 weeks or the hole will close.

    4. The hole size will vary on the type or earring you use, for example if you use a stud, the hole will grow to be the same size of the stud and take its shape.

Its more work and stress then a second hole would cause & is more likly to get an infection. So if your not up for the task i wouldnt get it. BUT if you are, it looks awesome and is more of a show stopper then a regular hole. good luck :)

  10. I've had mine done and I would say it was about a 6 or 7..and I have an incredibly low pain tolerance.  It really depends on how well you can handle pain.  If you are really wanting it pierced, just go for it.  All piercings hurt at least a little, but only for a while after.  If you're going to get it done, take a few deep breaths and just relax.  If you tense, it will hurt worse.  Good luck!!

  11. Mine hurt pretty badly. The only other piercings I can compare it to are nostril and ear lobe - it hurt more than that. I'd give it like a 6 or 7. Keep in mind that these piercings can actually take up to a year to fully heal, and will ache and hurt to sleep on until they are fully healed. When I got it pierced, it was just a sharp pain that was over quickly, and then it felt hot. It ached for the rest of the day. I had it pierced a year ago, let it close up, and got it again 3 months ago. It still aches sometimes, and I can't sleep on it comfortably.

Please don't get this pierced at a place like Claire's or Piercing Pagoda. They will use a gun - you want to get this pierced with a needle. Cartilage is different than ear lobes and can actually be damaged with a piercing gun, which uses a tremendous amount of force to shove an earring through your ear. The hollow needle a professional piercing studio will use makes room for the jewelry and creates less trauma. Guns are also not sanitary and you can get an infection.

Professional piercers who use needles will take proper precautions to sanitize and will give you good instruction on how to take care of your piercing. It is not okay to change it after 8 weeks! It takes much longer to heal!

    Best of luck
