I just got a new mustang and I was wondering how bad drifting is for my tires. I know that you lose tread drifting but how much? And how much is dangerous??

  1. Why drift in the first place?

Is it really that cool to keep buying tyres?

Save your money, Dude, and get a Volvo!

  2. Go to a website for racing and rallying. They have lessons on such things as well as competitions. Locally we have the website www.cscc.ab.ca where you can get some info on courses and events and learn proper fast driving techinques.

If I was you, with a costly and lovely new vehicle, I would invest in an old junker to practice this type of stuff. If you wreck your Mustang, you'll probably be charged, your insurance will go up, and the bank probably owns your car, right?...............until you pay off your loan...........

as for your tires, yup, you will wear out the outside tread and also wear out parts of the suspension system as well.

You should learn more about the mechanical aspects of your vehicle too, so that you understand where the stress points are and what parts of your Mustang will be affected by this activity. It may cost you more than you expect!

  3. Depends on how hard you drift.

You can completely ruin a new set of rear tires in about an hour.

it is not recommended to drive on the same tires you drift with if they have no tread.

there are tread depth markers on all tires just look in the grooves on the tires and you should see little blocks of rubber that are lower than the tread. If they are the same height as the tread then your tires are illegal

  4. I would say that if you are planning on doing this every weekend then you will be buying tires every three to four months...

  5. You lose a lot of tread doing it. A lot of guys that spend a few hours drifting at a track can go through an entire set of tires in a day. Every time your sliding and you see that white smoke it is similar to doing a burnout on all four tires. Tires low on tread are more unsafe in wet weather than dry weather but if they are getting bald it is time to replace them....

  6. Get yourself shares in a tyre company or give up drifting.

  7. this drifting is such a useless thing to do--not only are you ruining tires---you are placing great stress on the drive line and engine--actually destroying your car.---and in the end --what have you---just a bragging right ---you drifted----really immature thing to do---you wanna ruin your new mustang---just run it into a wall a few times --or hold the gas pedal to the floor board while in neutral--

  8. all i can say is that yea prepare to go through tires. dangerous not if you practice and now what your doin. but your car is right never drift in awd or fwd
