How beneficial is the body suit Michael Phelps and the other swimmer uses at the Olympics?

If Michael Phelps swam his 200 M Free or say some other stroke without the body suit, would he complete it less faster?

Has there been scientific tests to prove that body suits make you faster?

  1. YES it has been prooven.  NASA has designed this suit so they use a laser to put it together and there is no stitch mark. so it is basicly like one suit but it does have a zipper.  i should know   but he also used a "SHARK" which is like the same thing almost but the legs  r just there and they like 1 stich mark and they take a long time to put on i want some shark skins but there expensive.... i should know im a sw

  2. Don't know if there are official scientific tests on the razor suits, but people do say it makes you faster, and in a sport where less than 1/10th of a second can mean the difference between gold and silver, swimmers are going to use any advantage they can.

It does seem that since swimmers started using the suit, records have been falling faster. Or is it drugs?

Phelps doesn't always use the suit. But, basically it seems to streamline the body and lets the user flow through the water better, smoother.

  3. very makes him look extra hot for the cameras lmao.

  4. The swimsuit improves aerodynamics in the water for all swimmers. This is one reason why so many world records are broken.

But these swimsuits tend to look like something the ladies should be wearing. They look feminine.

  5. You can see Michael Phelps video & can see also his dress.

  6. yes it has been, 9/10 olympic athletes who've won gold medals in swimming were wearing the LZR.

  7. yes there has actually been scientific tests that show that it makes you faster. plus it was helped designed by NASA.

  8. There have been tests that the speedo fastskins reduce drag by about either 10% or .10%, i can't remember! but because the new suits are lasers together instead of stiched it would also create less drag...in the end, these races can come down to about .08 seconds (the 4x100m relay!) so yes, i would say they are very beneficial

  9. Like other suits used for competition, it allows for better oxygen flow to the muscles, and holds the body in a more hydrodynamic position, while repelling water.

The seams of the suit are ultrasonically welded to further reduce drag.

The suit reportedly can lower racing times for a competitor by 1.9 to 2.2 percent. ( so yes, it helps ;) )

  10. It helps a little....not often does it decide the result of a race though

  11. would they be fatser if they were naked? or does the suit give you "aero-dynamics" ?

  12. It must help Michael Phelps but however he is still an amazing swimmer and will always will be. He will win 8 gold medals at the Olympics.

  13. 1.42.59

  14. I don't know if the suit has anything to do with how well they swim but Michael is a fantastic swimmer no matter what. I <3 him!

  15. I have it on good authority that Michael Phelps is half merman. When his merman father passed on he was able to take his fathers scales and fashion a swim suit out of these scales. So as to scientific tests I would bet that his merman suit is a total plus. But it is also part of his genetic make up so with or without the suit no pure human stands a chance to beating him.

    Go Merman Phelps...

  16. well the suit makes it so that there is as little drag as possible while swimmng. I think he wears the lzr racer and there have ben MANY tests  to make it the best suit out there. NASA even helped out with the suit. As to weather he would swim faster, probably not. He would probably swim about the same or maybe even a little bit slower, but i could be wrong. I'm just thinking that since he wears that suit, it like eliminates any of the drag that might be caused by other body parts...... but i'm not totally sure. this is a good question though.
