ALl i hear is "Don't do your arms or your face or anywhere where you can see the tattoo because you wont get a job"

I'm having a hard time believing it because many people have tattoos. i know some employers are uptight about it but it can not be as bad as people make it out to be

  1. I used to have a little trouble, years ago, but tattoos are so mainstream America now, that everyone either asks where I got them done... or simply don't mention them at all.

  2. i bet mr redstock hasnt even talked to someone ender the age or 60 in years and. yeah i know people who have tats and arent even s***s at all.. but like dont have like avenged seven fold and all around you upper body thats too hardcore

  3. depends on situation but close to 90% for me

-generally indicates an attitude, of rebellion and or insecurity to me.

I would probably not hire someone with visible tattoos, unless they had the appropriate character/ aptitude to overcome their physical appearance

    IMO

  4. Yeah, some people have a real mental block about them. I have mine where they are covered by normal clothing such as a t-shirt.

  5. I dont think i am biased at all, especially because i have tattoos on my forearm.

Some employers you can work some sort of agreement with, or else modify the dress code so you can cover it up. But most times employers either dont care, or they do...no matter what your tattoos are

  6. speaking from a heavily inked chick, i agree many people are judgemental about tattooed people. But we dont get tattoos to hide, so why should we "not" get them on arms/face etc?

for many yrs i got sh.it from a lot of people about my tattoos, mainly family and employers.. but in todays society almost everyone is inked.

now my family realise this is who i am, and as for employers, i have found a job where tattoos are accepted, and in fact are constantly being showed to eachother.

in the 21st century, not as many people give a rats as.s about tatts, because they are part of our society.. so i wouldnt worry about what other people say about jobs etc.. there are always people out there willing to accept us.

and even if they dont, thats their problem, im inked and i dont are if u like me or not, becuase if they judge me, they aint worth the trouble.

    xo

  7. I have never, ever had any negative comments about my tattoos.  It has never stopped me getting a man, or a job, and yes I work in a very professional corporate environment, in a client facing role.  It has not hindered me in any way, I guess if you get your tatts where you can easily hide them with clothes on a day to day basis then if you don't tell someone you have them they would never know.

  8. I think it was frowned upon years ago but times have changed and it's becoming much more acceptable.

And I agree with you, Retstock is a complete tardmuffin!!

  9. These days tattoos are more accepted by the younger generation and some of the baby boomers.

I have two full sleeves, hands, neck and legs covered with no skin left and i have a great job which i got after my tattoos although in saying that i still do get looks of disapproval daily from older people!!!

  10. Well I think

"s**t"....... if it is a girl

    and

    "Wannabe"........if it is a guy

I point and laugh if it is especially stupid looking and I always assume the person is quite weak and impressionable mentally.

But they can probably work the French Fry bin alright!

EDIT: I am not being sarcastic, I am an employer and I avoid young people who try and feel significant by spending money on tattoos & piercings. The people I respect are those who find a way to distinguish themselves by working hard to accomplish something and developing usefull skills.

Those people make great additions to any staff.

Those who drop a few bucks to have some loser ink their skin tend to be people who want significance without putting out any effort.

Your question was how biased people really are about this. It sounded like you had not yet made this mistake so I respected you enough to give you an honest answer and your reaction was exactly what I expected, proof that everything I said was correct.

Childish people reject everything they do not want to hear.

I don't need that at my company.

EDIT 2: I am not being a bigot, I am being prejudiced. Meaning I make judgments based on previous information I have gleaned from experience. Need a dictionary?

I also don't care how anyone chooses to live their life or what they decide to splatter on their body. I do care about my business and the people I depend on to help me provide great service to my customers. My response was clearly expressed in regards to the criteria I use in hiring, your attempt to expand my comments into an attempt to take away others rights to do dumb things is more proof of your immaturity and the fact that you cannot offer a mature or intelligent response to my points.

Good Luck with your tattoo's and all the baggage that comes with them.

  11. Some people really are prejudiced against tatts.  I have four, and i can cover them up at any time- but when my manager at work found out that ihad t hem she kind of... idk... didn't talk to me for a while.  Some people consider it to be, as Mr. Restock *haha tardmuffin- that's cute!* said, a way to make one's self feel better... and everyone has tattoos for different reasons- if it was all for the same reason then we would all have the same tattoo.

    apparently i'm a s**t x4 lol!  that's funny...

But no one can see myh tattoos- because everyone warned me what they warned you, that people are going to trip out about it and i didn't realize it till afterwards but they do kind of trip out.

I have a bit to say though- because this quite pees me off-

I am a VERY intelligent young woman.  I am a very talented person, with great qualities, and I'm pursuing a degree in nursing, and I have the grades to do it!  I am NOT a s**t *in fact I have been cellebent for a long time now and before then i only had s*x three times*.  I work TWO jobs- one of them is at a daycare. I AM an asset to society, and i have tattoos.

When I work at the daycare, which my aunt runs, we generally work without shoes, and i have a tattoo on each foot and lots of the daycare parents see them.  Some of them think they're cute... others look at me with disgust.

    People are strange like that.

but good luck on your tatt if you get one!

btw- i'm tottally stealing the word tardmuffin...

    haha.

  12. I am 42.  Where I live, the area is a bit conservative about tattoos.  By conservative I mean, religiously conservative.  I have a nice tattoo on my bicep which my son did professionally for me.  I love it, but it is not completely hidden by my shirt sleeve, so I get tons of comments, including from my boss.  I am questioned about "does it hurt", "who did it", "really, your son?", and, "don't you know that you have marked yourself with the sign of Satan?".  I now have 3 tats that my son did on my, and more will be coming.  Because I choose to also be self-employed, I don't worry about my tats, but it does put off some of my clients.  I chose to leave a career in management, so I don't believe I am stupid or ignorant, nor am I trying to make myself seem more important or significant in life like Mr. Turdmuffin said! lol
