  1. If you need to ask on Yahoo Answers, you are not experienced or skilled enough to do a trip like this.

  2. Let's see...

You're leaving from "Point X" for Fiji and want us to tell you if a 28' boat that is "available" to you is big enough, right?

    First...

    Where's "Point X?"

What make/model is the 28' boat?

Do you know how to sail her?

Ever done this type of trip, solo, before?

Give up some more info and there will be many who'll be glad to help!

  3. You would be more comfortable in something big enough to hold all your supplies and equipment, and be able to hold its own in a seaway. I would submit that while its possible to do it in less, go for 35 to 40 foot minimum.

  4. If a boat is built strong, watertight, will go to weather and is easily handled that would be fine.  I've had offshore experiences in boats down to 24ft. The larger the boat more crew needed.

Never heard of a Miller 28 !   Ya better talk to someone around Shelter Island for some good help before you go.

A friend did it in a 17 footer. I prefer more space personally.

  5. no don't do it in a 28 foot do it in something bigger then 40 feet and be careful i mean i wouldn't even do it in a 55' thats why my friend got a 66' so there you go don't use a 28'

  6. I wouldn't do it in less than a 44 foot boat.  And carry a stainless steel shotgun loaded with slugs and large buckshot, plus an AK-47.  (for Pirates)

  7. Your crossing the Pacific in a 28' boat> Scares me and i'm fearless> I sailed a 40' and nothing smaller for off shore> Your call seems quite small>

  8. Yes, large enough.

  9. starting from where?

    Australia? maybe

    USA? No way

what are the prevailing winds from where you are starting from? You can ..maybe........make 100 miles a day.  In a 26 footer, 75 is more likely.

How many miles from x to Fiji? If sailing against the wind add 50 %.

How many days is that? Can you carry a gallon of water a day and food for that many days?

MOST IMPORTANTLY  What type of boat? An old Allberg or Pearson Triton might make it if the rig was in good shape. Most modern round the buoy or "coastal cruising" under-built deathtraps? Nope.

    More info please!
