  1. i think that to small

maybe go for like 6'3" shortboard thats pretty wide and pretty thick

or maybe try like 6'2" fish

  2. That will be a little small but you might be able to pull it off. Check out a 6'4 or 6'6 fish.

  3. Go to a good local surf shop and talk to the folks there who know the wave conditions lots better than we do. Also, don't rush into buying anything until you have had a chance to try a couple different types of boards (rent them or borrow them from your friends who surf). Do not waste you money with anything on line, and stay away from Chinese made popouts. remember, TRY before your BUY. Don't decide one type of board looks cool, but you can't ride it after you have paid a lot of money for it. Go to a good local shop, where they will help you get the right board for your size (weight/bouyancy ratio), skill level (beginner) and local wave conditions.

That 5'10" fish might be cool at 130 lbs, but what are the chances that you will want it to last more than one summer? I don't know you at all, but it's not inconcievable that by next year you could grow a whole lot, and render that board either useless (or damned hard to ride). At 14, my son weighed around 170. When he graduated from high school, he was well over 200 lbs. and 6'1". You know you family traits better than I do.

Check some of the resolved questions in Yahoo Answers _ "Surfing" and you'll see what I mean. I have been surfing since 1966, and I take my questions to the experts, at a good local surf shop.

And, buy a decent board, not a Chinese made popout.
