  1. I think it is best to narrow your question by discussing the African Bull elephant to the North American Mammoth.  Remember there is a striking difference in the size of the African and Asian elephants and as far as the mammoth goes, there have been found bones of Pygmy mammoths no bigger than a small cow.

    Anyway, A North American mammoth could easily double the size of the African Bull...standing as much as 18 feet at the shoulder (though this would be a huge specimen.  Of course you know the tusks of some mammoths made it as wide as a charging bull dozer.
