Chicken eggs are freaking huge compared to human eggs... does that mean that rooster sperm is extra large too?

  1. No.  Simply stated, the sperm cell is not much more than a head containing genetic information, powered by a tail that moves the information to the egg so that fertilization can take place.  Large sperm would be less efficient to move around.

Chicken gender is regulated by s*x chromosomes called X and Z, rather than X and Y like in most mammals.  Roosters with abnormal ZZZ chromosome complement DO have larger-than-normal sperm, but they are infertile.

In support of poultry, though, rooster s***n contains around 5 billion sperm per ml, about 40 times as much as that of a human.  Mature roosters produce about 35,000 sperm every second.
