  1. they're small but they are visible. Baleen whales depending on the species eat different things. the large the baleen the smaller the prey. Bowhead and Right whales have long baleen where as minke have small baleen the minke goes after krill but also fish like caplin. Same with the Humpback whale they hunt small fish as well using their baleen to sift out food.

  2. Some plankton are microscopic but the kind eaten by great whales are generally less than 1 inch long. They look like tiny lobsters.

  3. Whales are broken down into two groups based on their feeding methods. Toothed whales eat fish, squid, seals, and other whales. You are asking about Baleen whales. These whales have bony structures in their mouth to strain plankton from the sea. They feed primarily on an animal called krill which are, depending on species half an inch to about two inches long. They are visible.

  4. First the primarly food of most baleen whales is krill (not frill) which are like miniature shrimp.  They are about 1/4 inch long so yes they are visible.  A few baleen whales also trap small fish such as anchovies inside bubble nets and eat them.

Second, the baleen is not bony plates but is made of hair matted together.  Sort of like your fingernails but the edges are frayed.  Rhinocerous horn and the outer portion of a cows horn is made out of the same type of proteins.

  5. Yes, they are visible.  They also eat Krill, which are very small shrimp-like creatures.  Humpback Whales will also eat small fish in large schools that they have herded into a mass by using air bubbles to gather the fish.  Often, several whales will help each other to do this.

These whales are "Baleen" whales.  Baleen are comb-like structures that surround the inner jaws like "feathered" teeth.  When the whale takes a gulp of Plankton or Krill, they close their mouths, then force the water back out again through their baleen.  This "sifts" the food from the water, so they can swallow it without injesting all that unwanted sea water.

  6. Plankton are microscopic (i.e they are not visible with the human eye)

Whales have plates for teeth like the teeth of a comb to get these plankton.

whales have to eat hundreds of thousands a day to stay alive

    Hope i helped

  7. plankton that whales eat is about 1/2 of a cm and they grow in groups so its easier for the whales to get more of them plankton is more of a plant than an organism  it grows and some plankton illuminate in the water from the sun light or moon light

  8. planktons are only part of the food groups whales eat.whales' main dish is frill.a kind of a small shrimp living in the ocean
