Question:

How big can earthworms get?

Can they grow bigger than a couple metres in length? And if they are severed, can they still survive?

  2. It really depends on the species of earthworm, most north american earth worms can have a total length of around 5 inches.

  3. The ones in Korumburra can grow to 12 feet long. They are not tropical.

  4. Many species grow to a length of only a few centimeters, but some tropical species attain a length of up to 3.3 m (11 ft).

    Earthworms are segmented worms and have two body parts; the "tough part" is the head area, containing what little brain they have. It's usually darker in color.  The softer, lighter end is the "body" area.  If you hack the earth worm anywhere on the soft part, but leave the head area intact, it will regrow. It must have the brain part intact, though, in order to grow back.
