  1. You can plant your tree at 2 feet tall no problem. I have planted smaller ones, around one feet high and then soon settle in.

Aim to get a good cold hardy variety, such as Brown Turkey, which grows well in places like the UK. If you have a sheltered area it will grow rapidly.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

  3. Brown Turkey isn't an Olive it's a Ficus (fig) tree, so you mean Olea europa. Even if you live in the south you are better to give it winter protection when it's still small. They like well drained poor soil and will not tolerate wet clay very well. They like hot summers and full sun. To protect it you can use horticultural fleece and wrap it when it starts to get towards the winter. You can find this in any good garden centre or B&Q.

  4. I bought one some years ago, as Dingbat state aboves, the Olivia Europeana. I kept mine in a large pot on the patio for a couple of years, until about 4' tall then planted it in the garden. The tree is now 7yrs old and is now a 10' high standard, with it's silver evergreen leaves. Whilst it was young I placed it in a sheltered spot and covered it with fleece when hard frost was forecast. it now grows away merrily without my help. it is always a talking point when we have visitors. hasn't given us any olives though.Nice present.
