How big do barrel horses have to be?

i have a 14.3 chestnut brown mare quater horse im not shore if she is to short to barrel race so please help me,

  1. well i use to barrel race an i dont think it matter about the height just if she's fast or not :)


  2. as long as their bellies dont drag on the ground, and they have four legs, and look like a horse, I think they are considered bigh enough.  lol :)

  5. She is just right. Height does not matter i have a barrel horse that is 15.2 hands and a barrel mare that is about 14.3. My friend has a pony that her sister rides against big horses and that pony  can kick some big horse @$$.

  6. Nope, not too short... if anything, shorter horses are preferred because it's often easier for them to make the tight turns than a larger horse. Most Quarter Horses and Paints (which are the most common breeds used for barrel racing) are around 14.2-15.2hh.

  7. not at all. it depends more on her speed and conformation, speed depends on conformation. if you don't know if  her conformation is good or not, look at pictures of barrel horses, and compare them and your horse.
