How big do gerbils get, not including the tail??

i just got a gerbil, but i dont know how old he is or anything, but how big do they normally get?

a full grown gerbil will be 4 inches long not including the tail.  the tail will be the exact lenght of the body so around 4 inches.  if you bought this gerbil then he is probably a month old at the earliest.  It takes gerbils a few months to get full length.
