I went for the last ultrasound today at 36 weeks, 2 days. It was to see if he was head or bum up because the midwives couldn't tell LOL. He is bum up and with all the information I got I found out he's measuring 36 weeks, 4 days and he's 6 lbs, 7 ozs right now. I know they gain between 1/2 lb and 1 lb a week. My daughter was 7 lbs, 13 oz, the same as me when I was born and my husband was two weeks early at 8 lbs, 15 1/2 oz. I know it's not definate enough to answer, but from personal experience and facts, what do you think? I'm thinking he'll be a couple of days early (due Sept 15) and that he'll be about 8 1/2 lbs. Anyone else experience this and have a whopper baby? :D

  1. Its quite normal that your second child might be slightly larger then your first.  I won't tell you how big my boys were (1st was 4lbs 14 oz, 2nd was almost 5lb) I would have trouble having babies any larger as I am a small person 5ft 2.  Luckily  my husband is only 5ft 6!  Even the obgyn got my bubs size wrong and I had ultrasounds.

Its hard to predict.  My sister 1st bub was 7lb 2oz, her second was 6lb and her third was 7lb 2 oz born Sunday 17 Aug 08.

Good luck with your pending labour and Congratulations :0)

  2. All the baby's in my family were 7-8 pounds.  At my 39 week check-up I asked my doctor to guess what she thought the baby weighed based on feeling my stomach.  She guess "oh, about 7 pounds".   Needless to say I was shocked to find out my baby girl was 9lb 6oz.

  3. I wouldn't put too much faith in the weight they gave you at the ultrasound.   Those are such estimations that I think it's realy hard for them to get anywhere close.  I have a friend who recently had a baby, and at 38 weeks, they did an ultrasound and said he was about 6 1/2 pounds, predicted he would be about 7 1/2 pounds at birth, and she had him 2 days later, 9 lbs, 11 ounces.  So I think they were a little off on the ultrasound.  sorry I didn't really answer your question, but I don't think it is really one that can be answered.  you will just have to wait and see!

  4. Oh, my gosh I couldn't imagine.  My biggest baby was 6 pounds.  My three boys all came early, they were small, but healthy.  I would think 8 1/2 to 9 pounds.  Congrats and good luck!

  5. i was told that you can determine about how much your baby will weigh if you take the average weight of what you weighed when you were born and what your mother weighed when she is born. however i am 35weeks and 4 days and my baby weighs a little over six pounds and my doctor thinks she will weigh between 8 and 9 pounds so she is bigger than both me and my mom. how the tests can always be wrong... GOod luck
