Question:

How big does a pet rat get?

i have a pet rat the species is a "fancy" rat i got a him on august 3rd and when i got him he was only a month old and he has grown like ten times as much is that a bad thing i took him to my vet he is not fixed im getting him fixed but is there anything to do

  1. Male rats can get quite large.  If you're feeding him a lab block (Seed diets make them fat) then I wouldn't worry about it too much. :)  Some male rats can even get up to 2 pounds, but that's usually if you feed them a lot of junk food, too.  It's not a bad thing, boys just get big!

    Getting him neutered won't change his growth at all.  Hopefully you have a second rat (or are planning on getting another) and he's in a good sized cage!
