  1. There is really no answer.  What some people call lakes are smaller than what others call ponds.

    A "puddle" though may be thought of as temporary.

The difference among puddles, ponds, and lakes probably have more to do with how they are created and how long they are "full" than what their diameter is.  A puddle is a temporary body of water usually formed by rain in a low lying area.  A Pond is a small body of water that is present year-round.  Water in a pond is defined as still.  A lake is bigger and perhaps fed by a river or stream.  I don't know if size is a factor at all in deciding what to call a body of water.
