How big is Hoi An, Vietnam?

It is almost impossible to answer this question.  the old town area of Hoi An comprises about 14 square blocks and borders the river. The area in square feet?  I am not even sure that the government knows because the area is definitely not squared off.  (this happens because of the river frontage)  You have to remember that Hoi An was originally built a bit like Venice Italy with canals going to most of the shops in the river quarter.  This was done to facilitate delivery from various Chinese vessels that were trading during those times.

The old town area of Hoi an has all building proscribed.  But the surrounding parts of the city are growing at an astounding rate.  There is construction everywhere right now but luckily the government has restricted building height to 5 stories.  So t he town is retaining some of its beauty and you don't feel like you are in a huge city.   I will star your question in hopes of finding out more information myself.  Interesting question.
