I'm trying to buy a mountain bike for my girlfriend. I have no idea what frame sizes mean. The bike I'm looking at is described as a "unisex 15-inch mountain bike". What I want to know is, how tall/short of a person is that size bike suited for? What height would "normal" be for a 15-inch bike? Thanks!

  1. You should go to a store whith your girl to have correct messures and dont throw you rmoney.

But if you cant, well a 15 inch bike is meant for 1.5mt o 1.65 mt so if your girlfriend is in that range you might get what you want

  2. A 15" frame would fit in the small to extra small frame category and it would suit someone with a height around the 5' range.

  3. 15-16 inches are for short

17.5-18 inches are for medium sized guys

19 inches and above are for tall guys (6' and above)

  4. if your girl friend is about 4' 10" thats the bike for her. hahah just google bike sizes or something

  5. The 15" figure refers to the length of the seat tube, the part of the frame that contains the post that holds the bike seat (see this picture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Annot... While the seat tube length is a standard measurement, it is also important to know the standover height of the bike. This measurement is the distance from the top tube to the ground (again, refer to the picture) plus the clearance distance between the top tube and the rider's crotch. You want to have between 1-3 inches from the top tube to the rider's crotch. Because most bikes are designed for men, the top tube is usually higher than is comfortable for most women, even though the seat tube measurement might be appropriate. That's why its probably better for her to try the bike out first.

Generally speaking, though, a 15" seat tube will fit someone with roughly a 29 inch inseam.
