  6. Kangaroos are very small when they're born. They're about an inch or less in length, as others have said, and they weigh less than a gram. When a joey (baby kangaroo) is born, it crawls up to the pouch and latches on to one of the teats. The teat swells in it's mouth, and it's then attached to the teat for a month or so.

    After that, it will stay in the pouch for another 6 or 7 months, and then leave the pouch, just going back to drink when it needs to.
