How big is the Prostitution problem in the United States?

The main problem, in my opinion, is s*x slave prostitutes. Girls in other countries are offered the chance to move to America; when they get there, their papers are taken away and they have to work off their travel expenses by working as a prostitute. When they eventually work off their "expenses," they have no skills and the only high paying job they can get is as a prostitute. These girls are hidden from public view so it is impossible to know how many there are, just that there are a lot.

Other than that, there aren't a whole lot of "streetwalker" types. I've lived in California my whole life, and been to a few big cities around the country. The only time I've thought "Gee, I think these girls are prostitutes" was in a nightclub in Reno, Nevada. Nevada is the only state that seems to have a huge problem with prostitutes; even though there are legal brothels, there are so many restrictions that most prostitutes try to make it on their own in Reno and Vegas.

I agree with straycat that they should legalize and regulate it, since if its legal and there are no pimps, it hurts no one. They would just need to do a better job then Nevada, where prostitutes have to be at the brothel for weeks at a time, have to get permission to leave for any reason, etc.

You have not made clear what that problem might be.

To much or to little demand? To many bigots against it, but hiring prostitutes in secret?

To many or to few clients arrested?

Not enough safe ways for prostitutes to leave the business?

Depends on who you ask! To Johns and Hookers, it's not a problem at all.

Honestly, they should legalize it.  It can then be government controlled, ensuring STD tests are done on a regular basis, taxes are collected, and more important use for police forces that spend so much time on sting operations.
