How big is the UK on the international stage?

If ur in America or any other country, or indeed even here in the UK, how big is the UK compared to other countries? From an Americans point of view, how big is it?

The UK is a member of the G8 countries (countries with the biggest economies) so, depsite not being one of  the biggest in size or population, economy is large.

Also London is now considered the world's financial hub alongside New York.

So all in all a pretty major player in the world scene though the development of the EU, China and India may lessen its role in world affairs in the future
