How big of a board do I need to ride tandem with my girlfriend?

   yeah that would be good. just make sure you guys are balanced. i would make sure that she is in front of you. both paddeling then get up together.. when paddeling make sure your face is in her small of face. so that you guys dont bail out. 9 foot would be fine just make sure that its pretty thick.

   isn't she having a baby in august? maybe surfing wouldn't be the best thing to do for a few months after the baby is born.

   Tandem boards are designed differently then regular boards.  They are usually thicker and have softer rails then regular longboards.  If you just want to catch a few waves with your girlfriend, the 9'6" will work.  However, if you really want to get into Tandem surfing and try any positions, contact Steve Boehne at Infinity Surfboards.  He will be able to advise you on what will work best.  There is also information on Tandem surfing on their web site.
