Question:

How big of a grant can I get?

Chances are I'm not going to get a full ride scholarship to a good school that I actually want to go to due to my s******g around freshman year. So right now I will probably end up with a 3.3 or 3.4 GPA with a SAT score anywhere from 1700-2100. I don't know if that affects your grant opportunities, but I put it out there just in case. My parents' income is below $40,000 I believe, and I have one sister(and a step sister that doesn't live with me).

Thanks

  1. This is one of the link where you will get good information :

    http://www.soros.org/grants

    or

    http://www.nmwarburg.org/grants.htm

    or

    http://www.gatesfoundation.org/grants

  2. Hardly anyone gets a full-ride scholarship anyway, so the chances are that you wouldn't have gotten one even if you hadn't had a bad freshman year.  As to grants, this depends on a number of things, including where you live, your parents' financial obligations, etc.  The maximum Pell Grant for next year is $4751.  Some states also have additional grants that they will give out.  In any case, you can certainly expect a package which will include loans, possibly along with grants and other things like work-study.

  3. You will likely get full pell grant for 4700.

The rest depends on the schools you apply to.  College is a business and schools want to have a class with the best GPAs and SATs so they can look better in rankings.

The better schools you apply to will give you less money.  Your safety schools will give you more.

By this time of year you really should have a financial aid package from all schools you applied.  Call the fin aid offices and see if you are mosing something.
