  1. Strictly speaking, none. A refugium is never necessary. But, if you're going to build one, "as big you can" is always best.

  4. Your best bet is to get a Hang On Back Refugium for that size tank. CPR makes a very good one, the small size would be great. I had it on my 30g for years and it was awesome! My Mandarin had more food than it knew what to do with. I have since upgraded to a 90g and plumbed one in using a 20g tank.
