How big of a sailboat would you need to fit 4 people on relatively comfortably?

like the length of the boat and everything so i know what to look for¿

  1. The general rule of thumb is, you need 15 feet of boat for each person who will be living and cuising on it.  In the case of children, you can put both of them into 15 feet so, you would need anywhere from 45 feet to 60 feet of boat to suit your needs.

    I can tell you for a fact that 15 feet of boat per person get's very small after a long passage.

  2. The cockpit varies in size from one boat to another. We have a Flying Scot that is 19 feet and you can put 8 easily in the cockpit. \We had a 23 foot Precision that was great too. I have seen 25's that had a small cockpit. We also sail a 30 footer that sleeps 5 easily. Do you want a trailerable or in the water boat? It depends on the boat.
