How big of an affect does 'stop and go' have when on a run?

I live in a city. Cities have traffic. Traffic involves stopping and going, wether in a car, on a bike or running. I like to run and ride my bike as cardio work out. I recently moved to a new location in the same town. I used to run on a track. It's much easier for me to just go running somewhere outside, but how big of an impact does all the stop and go at crosswalks and streetlights have?

  1. well if you are running relativley fast and you suddenly stop for 10-30 seconds and then start up again your breathing might increase slightly, but otherwise it wont affect you

  2. I consider the traffic lights a bit of a break, but it does not effect your running, because this help you reenergize your run and its usually not long enough for you to cool down.  I wouldn't worry about it too much, you're out there running and cycling.  Sounds like your in good shape anyways.
