I am looking to upgrade my car speakers, I'm not spending alot of money. So i'm just wondering how you calaculate what size amp you need.

If i were to go with 2 of these in the back:

CEA-2031 Power Rating: 85 Watts

Power Handling Capacity (RMS): 85 Watts

Power Handling Capacity (Peak): 260 Watts

and 2 of these in the front:

CEA-2031 power rating: 80 Watts

Power handling capacity (RMS): 80 Watts

Power handling capacity (Peak): 240Watts

Do i need an amplifier and if so how do you figure out how powerful of an amp you need?

Thanks

  1. Ok well you will need an amplifier but not a big one. Your probable be alright with a 4 channel 400watt  4channel amplifier to power the new speakers. That would send 100 watts of power to each speaker which will be enough to make then sound good but not enough to really damage you were to try.

  2. depends on how much you value your hearing...

and how old you are,  the older you get the smaller

    amp you need.
