How big of an aquarium do I need to hold 2 Colombian sharks?

The lady at the pet store told me I would be fine with a ten gallon tank for a full grown Colombian shark! I know this is not true, I just need help determining how big of a tank I should go buy. I probably want 2 Colombian sharks, because everyone says they work better together.

  1. These "sharks" can get up to 2 feet...and need at least 100 Gallons.  They like to school and do best in groups of 3 or more...so ya need the room.

They also do best in brackish water...especially to thrive to full size.

So best plan on a big tank...and great filtration.

    Best of Luck!

  2. 10g for an adult columbian catshark?? They get larger than a 10g without the water!

You are aware that these are brackish/marine fish and not freshwater yes? They usually would only get to about 15", but they do potentially get to 24".

I would aim for at least a 125-150 gallon for a pair for now set up as brackish, as they grow you'll need to gradually bring them up to full marine.

  3. i would go for a 55 gallon tank this will give them loads of room/space when they start to grow i wouldn't go for a smaller 1 or u will just eventually have to up grade in size when they start to grow  hope this helps u out and good luck

  4. that is not true....to start they are not freshwater fish, they are brackish water so they need a low salt content or low salinity of 1.008-1.010, going to full marine as adults.  Second they can reach close to 2 feet when full grown and properly cared for.  And 3rd  it will 75 gallon minimum for one, much larger for multiples, which they do like to have friends.   This fish needs a large tank not only for it's size, but because it is a fairly active swimmer.  if you only have a ten gallon tank get a guppie or find a 125 gallon tank for 2 sharks.
