well, it wouldn't depend on the childs age. It would depend on their height and weight etc.

How tall is your son and what is his weight and skill level?   If a larger 13 year old or a more advanced or aggressive rider, I would probably suggest an adult board.  Depending on the type of riding he will be doing, you generally want the board when standing on end to come somewhere between your chin and nose (shorter of planning to do more pipe riding; longer if more all around mountain cruising).

First of all - apologies for assuming it was for your son!  If your daughter is a more experienced rider, I would suggest an adult board - the youth boards may be a bit too soft for her.  As for size, I would suggest something in the 145 range, but would focus on something that stands between her chin and mouth.
