  1. African cichlids are highly territorial but do well when crowded and kept in large groups.  The secret to keeping everybody happy is to pile up lots of rocks so there are plenty of hiding places and nooks and crannies.  Of course you still want to see the fish so if you pile up the rocks along the back and sides of the tank you will be able to see the fish more.  Each time you add new fish to the tank, you must move the rocks around so everyone starts fresh and no one gets beat up for swimming into someone else's territory.

Now if you have a lot of rocks in your tank, you will need a powerful current to oxygenate the water and even out the water temperature in all parts of the tank.  Most filters are not powerful enough to create this kind of current.  Power heads are the answer.  They are not filters so you need a filter too but power heads are submersible and you can put them almost anywhere and point them in the direction you want the currents to go in.  If you have a 50 gallon or larger tank, you might want to put two or more power heads in it.  Your african cichlids will love you and you will enjoy your fish much more.  So get the largest tank you can afford and have room for because now you have the secret to keeping african cichlids.

  2. you could be more specific as african cichlids includes 3"brichardis  all the way to 30" emperor cichlids and lots more in between.  albinos are a color morph and could appear in any species of fish or animals, even humans. please be more specific inorder to get useful assistance, otherwise, any suggestions would be wild guesses

lanab has a point. why keep albinos? 35 years ago, albinos were relatively rare as most fishes were wild caught and albinos dont compete well in the wild. all-white fishes were rare and included kissing gouramis, gold severums, pink convicts, and a very small list of others, nowadays, albinos of anything can be found.from the basic reds, blues and greens of yesteryears, bettas are available now in white, yellow, orange, even red-white-and-blue. albino forms of mostly black or grayish fish were more attractive but i fail to see how an albino congo tetra can be prettier than the wild type. sadly, i never see the wild type anymore, just a poor ghost of its former self.  albino oscars, albino peacocks, albino angelfish, they're all pinkish, so what's attractive about them?

  3. http://www.petco.com/caresheets/fish/Cic...

everthing u need to know about tank care water temp, food.. their particular about thier fozen foods

But for the tank... the link says 2-10; i think it's more like 4-8in not many African Cicilids are that small or big, but for agruments sake lets say.. avg. 5 in per adult fish.. formual is 1 gal for every grown in. so assuming 4 fish.. 20 gal tank, but AT LEAST go to 30 or get a 20 bowfront adds an extra couple gals

But.. .to be completly save, 4 fish at 10in each... well u get it right.

Before bying anything do alot of research.. find out ideal water temp, sandy bottom vs gravel.. types of decor.. for hiding or less of that and more swimmming room..

  4. What species?

You may be able to keep several smaller ones in a 20gal, or need 200 gal for some of the monsters.

Also.. the usual reason to keep Africans is their bright colours.... Albino cichlids are just agressive white fish....?
