I have 2 parakeets and the cage is a 17W x 24H x 21D. I really want one more but I'm not sure if my cage is big enough for a third parakeet. It would be awesome if you could give me an opinion of what you think. Thanks and if you could..........I'm not expecting you too......but if you could paste the website where you found you info, it would be great. But just your opinion would be great too. THANKS!!!!!!

  1. i think that is is fine.  ive seen 5 or more in a regular size cage at a bird shop.

  2. A nice sized cage should big big enough where the parakeets could fly from one end to the other. Not full-out flying but a small fly instead of a jump.

Try looking in PetSmart of PetCo for their more expensive cages. Those are the biggest. You could also look into building your own cage.

  3. Get the biggest cage you can afford and can fit into the space you want to put it in. The one you describe doesn't sound very big at all. Remember, you'll need to have room for perches and toys and multiple food/water cups.

  4. It looks like that cage is almost big enough for three, as long as it's not too crowded with toys and has enough perch room for all of them. The site below recommends sizes for each number of birds, 24x24x24 being the size for three.

Generally, people who work at petco and petsmart don't know very much about bird cages. Most cages sold at those places are too small for even one bird to feel comfortable.

Make sure you get a cage that has narrow bars so your birds can't get out in between them.
