im looking to buy a albino boa, i have not decided what type of albino but it will be a baby none the less as i wish to handle it from birth and watch it grown. im looking to buy/build a big enclosure for it when its fully grown, as the snake will be around the 10-14ft. im asking this so i no before i buy the snake i will be able to have the suitable living space for it as it gets older. i have good knowledge about snakes but i have never owned a snake longer than 5 and a half feet so how big would i need the enclosure...thanks

  1. Minimum would be 4x3x2 for a 12ft snake IMO.

So around that, or bigger if you want to give it more room to move =)

To work out minimum cage dimensions, I times the length by the width (4x3=12).

  2. thank you so much for doing the research first!  so many people go out and buy a big snake and then don't know what to do with it.  so again thank you!

for me i would probably put in in a 6' long vision or showcase cage. i like to make sure my snake has plenty of stretching room.  also the showcase and vision cages hold humidity nicely also.

    good luck!

  3. Your enclosure should be the length of the full grown snake in height plus a extra 18". Floor space should be 4-6ft square. A snake should be allowed the room of its body length to make a kind and healthy environment

Put large branches for climbing and make sure you can afford the heating/lighting costs for such a big enclosure. Also make sure you will be able to get food big enough when your boa is fully grown

Another thing to consider is  that any bigger than 5ft then it takes 2 people to handle the snake for safety reasons. This is why boas and pythons do not make good pets unless you know what they are capable of.

  4. just because someone writes a book and voices an opinion doesn't mean to say that they are right.Any tom,d**k & harry can write a book.

There is no set size for a boa so saying they grow no bigger than a certain size is wrong. The size is down to both genetics from the parents plus the main contributing factor is how aggresivley it is fed ie how much, prey size and how often.

There is no set size for a viv and you should be able to provide what it needs as it grows.its also a pity that the book doesn't mention alot of captive boas and pythons suffer from digestive complaints and internal problems, and the main reason for this is people keeping then in vivs that are too small to allow the snake to streach out  and help the food move along the gut and get digested properly and also to get some excercise.Too many people keep large constrictors in conditions where they spend most of their time curled up .Its the equivelent of you getting into the foetal position like a baby in the womb and then consuming a full sunday dinner and staying like that for 2-3 days or even longer.then before you know it your next meal is put down in front of you.It wouldn't be long before you started suffering and thats whats happening to alot of large constrictors being kept in cages where they cant streach out.For the well being of your snake you need to provide as big an enclosure as poss and if you cant do that then get something smaller.A 14ft snake would need an enclosure of 10ft long by 2-3ft wide and 3 ft tall. That will give it a good home and a comfortable place to live.

  5. 7x4x3

  6. At least ten to fourteen foot long

  7. Albino boas are Colombians, and Colombians rarely exceed 10 feet in length. A male Colombian can live its whole life in a cage with a floor space of 4 feet by 2 feet. Larger females need a 6 x 2. And if your boa somehow reached over 10 feet in length, try a 6 x 3. A snake does not need to be able to stretch out in its enclosure.

EDIT: In "The Boa Constrictor Handbook" by the very reputable Philippe de Vosjoli, he says an adult male can live in a 4 x 2 and a large female needs a 6 x 2. I'm going to believe him before I'll believe the people here on Yahoo who seem to disagree with me.
