How call I tell if I've written enough?

I like to write stories, but I don't know if the reading layout in

microsoft office word 2003 is an accurate mesaure of actual books, or

at least a close range.

Write the stories the way "you" think is best, and remember, Pride and Prejudice got rejected by the publishers first time around.  They aren't Microsoft's stories, they're yours.

EDIT

You could write the whole novel straight through, then when you submit it to a publisher, ask their opinion about breaking it up into chapters.  They tend to know what sells best, and are more likely to take an interest in something they have helped to shape.
