I can't tell the difference between cedar and cypress. They look the exact same.

  1. definitely no.

the cedar tree's leaves and branches grow more lower, whereas the cypress tree's branches grow more on the top.

  2. What kind of cypress? And which type of cedar.

TRUE Cedar trees (Genus Cedrus) have needles and look more like pines or spruce.

Many things called cedars, like Incense Cedar, have flat sprays of scale-like leaves.

Cypress trees have smal scale-like leaves that come off from the branches (twigs) at 90 degrees from the previous pair. They come in opposite pairs.

The cones are different too.  Cypress have globular (ball like) cones.  Cedars are different shapes.

And get a close look with a magnifying glass to look closely at the leaves. You can see where the stomatal bloom is and tell them apart that way too.

Its a think that really needs  good botanical photos to be sure.  Try a trip to the library so you can have a book in hand to compare what the leaves and branches and such look like.
