How can I accelerate purple coralline algae in my saltwater fish tank without useing caribsea purple up????

  1. first, purple up sucks.

    second, as long as you're maintaining proper calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium it'll catch up in time.. the first few months are slow as h**l but once you hit the six month or so mark it'll take off like a rocket..

    if it's an older tank i'd take a look at you tank readings, and get rid of anything like sea urchins that'll eat coralline

Good lighting, good water conditions and good water flow.  When I bought all my live rock, it was mostly bare, but I bought a piece with good coverage, turned off the filter and power heads, I took a plastic knife and I scraped the algae off the rock all thru my tank and let it settle for a few hours, before turning everything back on, it seeds the tank if you will, now I have so much I am cleaning it off the glass every few days.
