How can I add a modem to a Dell Dimension 5150?

I just bought a Dell Dimension 5150 tower for my daughter and I went to connect it to a dial up connection and the computer has no modem. A.)Can I download a modem driver, and from where? B.)Can I download it on my current computer and transfer it somehow to my daughters being that hers can't go online?

  1. Most computers do not come with Modems any more.  The come with Network cards (for cable or DSL connections).

    You would need to purchase a PCI 56k modem and install it to have a dial-up connection.

  2. A modem is a physical device, you cant just download it.

    Dimension 5150 has two empty PCI slots, use one for a U.S. Robotics USR5670 56Kbps PCI Bus (Plug & Play) Fax modem - Retail

    Open the case, plug it in the PCI Slot and restart, install the software for your operating system.

    Too expensive, there are cheaper PCI Bus (Plug & Play) Fax modems.
