How can I add an external mic input to a Sony Handycam DCR DVD 810? The Sony adapter VMC-K100 is discontinued

If anyone out there is making anything custom I would be interested in purchasing something. Aparently, the VMC-K100 adapter, which only cost 10.00 has been discontinued so as to force me to use their proprietary microphones....but I have very expensive mics that I use in a studio environment and I need to find a wy to use them. Thanks very much.

  1. You don't.

B&H Photo was the only place in the US where I could find that adapter - it was discontinued many months ago and there is no stock. I heard a rumor that they were originally made for the German markets, so you may have some luck poking around internationally.

Or maybe eBay (I just checked and did not find any).

They weren't even available directly from Sony... Because it is connected to the proprietary Sony "active interface" shoe, technically, anyone making something that works with that would need to get licensing from Sony - that's one of the reasons only Sony mics made for that shoe are available.

    Good luck...

By the way, the last time I checked, the Canon ZR800, ZR900 and ZR930 are the least expensive camcorders with a mic-in jack (they do not have manual audio control).

The least expensive camcorders - of which I am aware - that have mic in jacks and full manual audio control are the Canon HV20, HV30, Sony HDR-HC7 and HC9...
