Question:

How can I afford to get one of those cool electric cars instead of a regular gas car or a slow electric car?

I like that Tesla Roadster and I plan on beating the system of those awful gas prices and drive something electric and save good money. I wouldn't want to be caught dead in one of those ugly ZAP or Volt electric cars, I want something that's cool and more on the fast side and I want to be able to work out an affordable payment plan with a dealership.

The time has come to switch to electrci cars because gas prices have made it impossible to afford the same kind of living people have had 4 years ago.

  1. My plan is to convert my 4runner with an electric motor and power it with a solar electric charging system. I figure it will cost about $10-15,000. I love my 4runner so I would rather do a conversion than trade it. And yes this is feasible, they have electric powered Army tanks - if they can be moved by an electric motor than any vehicle on the road can be too. Research, research, reseach! The info is out there and mechanics ready and willing to do it for you - take the leap! You won't be sorry! How can you afford it? HOW CAN YOU NOT?

  2. I'm laughing my head off right now, but I don't have an electric car. I drive cars that run on natural gas (methane). It's 85 cents a gallon to fill up here in Utah, and way cleaner for the environment than gasoline cars. They've been around more than 10 years but almost nobody knows about them. They aren't expensive to buy used, and the engines run forever (almost). Check out my sources below and see if you have a place to fill up near you. Go for it - these are great cars, and they exist NOW. Use one until you can actually buy a decent electric car in the future. Start laughing now instead of having to wait!

  3. i entirely agree with u. i too am such a believer. in india we have a battery car called Reva. it is a very cute car and very cheap one too as it is mainly a two seater, with possibly two children in the rear.

if ur motive is mainly to save on money, there are also cars that run on water.

best of luck for ur search!!!

  4. electric cars are a great idea. take a cruise thru EV Canada's site  and look what is coming up.

  5. Need your help , I want to force the oil Co. to recognize we are out here. I know it is impossible to boycot them all. I think we could pick one of the CO. to boycot. Exxon has been very smart about the billions of dollars and acting as if they could not understand. So pass it around that no body use Exxon for a couple of months and we might see some competition,,

         Help pass it on

  6. It's all about consumerism, isn't it? We want to buy ourselves out of this problem, and have the latest cool toy!! Wow! Let's get real. If you want to save money and energy, as opposed to getting lots of personal attention, find a used 4-cyl Camry or Corolla with a 5-spd, rebuild the motor, and you have a 38 mpg machine. I have a friend who did exactly this for $2000.

  7. the money you are now spending on gas can be put toward payments

  8. You can either buy a Green Vehicles Triac

Or wait for a couple of years, by which time there will be many EV and plug-in hybrid options.

  9. They are toys for rich people.  If you are not rich you can't have one.

  10. for the added cost of the electrict car you could by 100 years of gasoline

  11. probably for now, the best way is to build it yourself.  Learn the tech and put down the money, and build it.  Here is a mailing list of people who have done this.  http://www.madkatz.com/ev/evlist.html

  12. Well, good luck.  The Tesla won CNET's 2008 Vaporware Award, and it looks like it'll be in the running for 2009.  Besides the fact that the cost of the battery was thoroughly ridiculous, they made a distinct error in insisting that the car go as fast as it does.  It turns out that you need a very high-speed automatic transmission to do this--normal electric cars don't need a transmission at all, but you do if you want to exceed 100 mph--and such a transmission doesn't quite exist.  And so Tesla is making, get this, their tenth car.  Yes, the 'original production run' sold out.  That 'run' consisted of seven cars.

They ran out of money once, and were rescued.  Fortune Magazine has the whole story.  I don't wish them ill, but I don't really think Tesla is exactly the Car of the Future.

People have indeed driven for many years now, but during a large portion of the automobile's existence they didn't use them to drive to work.  They took the bus.  The work commute came with the construction of freeways in the '60's.  I think its time has passed, and cars will once again be used for drives to the beach and the grocery store, but not to work each day.

  13. i dunno if you like this car or down right hate it but the smart car is great.  its great on gas its pretty cheap and it is eco friendly.  the only down side to this car is that there is a 9 month waiting list to get it, but if it is going to help the envioronment then heck, i would get it!
