Question:

How can I alter a huge t-shirt into a medium babydoll shirt?

I'm a bit of a nerd chick, but most of the designs on shirts that I love (Transformers, Batman, Mario, etc.) don't come in women's sizes. For this current project, I'm trying to make a XXXL shirt into a medium babydoll shirt for me. The problem is that, when a shirt's that big, the shoulder seam is about where my (short) sleeves would end. When I just cut at the shoulder seam and alter the sides to be smaller, I get this webbed look between my b***s and the sleeve. So is there a way to make a form-fitting shirt that has fitted sleeves out of a shirt that much bigger than me?

  1. ok . just add a couple of pine 2x4's a light switch and call a plumber.............................mayb... i didnt understand the question in home and garden repairs?

  2. If you are a babydoll you b=don't need to fix the shirt at all. You'll look good in it anyway..

  3. What I would recommend, is going to a fabric store, and finding the pattern for a babydoll shirt.  This will have the proper dimensions pre-determined FOR you.

then, all you have to do, is use a seam ripper on the XXL, and pin the pattern to the existing shirt.  cut out, and re-sew!

the best part, is the pattern is re-useable, so you can do this over and over.  if the pattern isn't quite right in one area, you can simply cut the template to modify it.

if you're planning on doing this over and over, using a template/pattern is going to be worth while...

or else, shop online.  Busted Tees has babydolls...  and hilarious shirts too.
