How can I apply for a checking account?

we'll be renting an apartment and the landlady wants us to prepare 11 post dated checks 5.5k each. how do i go about applying for a checking account.

Question?  Why is the landlord wanting 11 post dated checks?  Are these rent checks?  I would never agree to this.  She should have a due date for the rent.  Usually the first day of the month and a late fee after the 5th day of the month.

Never agree to give someone that many post dated checks. anything could happen.  That just don't sound like a good idea.

First of all writing post dated checks at all is a bad idea especially for that amount

Second of all you have enough money that you can afford to rent an apartment that rents for 5.5k a month and you don't know how to get a checking account?

If I were you, I would NOT do that. Find somewhere else to rent. 11 post-dated checks for over $5k EACH? Don't you EVER give somebody that much money. If even one of those bounce, you could go to prison, don't you know that?? Anything over $250 is grand larceny and they could also get you for check fraud which is a felony and can be a federal offense.

No, no, no. That is a really bad idea. If she doesn't have a set date to collect rent and wants you to do it like that, you find somewhere else to rent. Just because it's post-dated doesn't mean the bank won't cash it, either. I have post-dated checks and have had people cash them before the date and s***w my account all up. Don't rely on that.
