How can I apply for a government grant?

I am unemployed and I really need a job but since I did not go to college I would love to find either a grant to go to school or some kind of pell grant or something to learn a trade and start working right away but I don't know anything about grants or where to start looking. I have been to www.grants.gov and www.cfda.gov so I don't need to be referred to either of these sites- especially since in order to register with grants.gov you need to already know the number of the grant you want to apply for, and I don't. I just want to know what kind of education or pell grants are out there and links where I can find those specific grants, not a website with a search bar. Thanks.

  1. You need to fill out ur fafsa....when u fill it out it will give you an EFC, and subtract that from about 4500 and that will be how much u get for a pell grant and then the school you want to go to will contact you and give u paperwork to fill out to get a federal student loan. Once you get started you can start applying for other grants once you talk to your school counselor and they tell you what u are eligible for.

  2. You need to go the financial aid website and fill it out.  You need to have your taxes from 2007 ready (if you filed).  You can get a pell grant if you qualify as well as federal loans (no credit check).  How old are you?  If you are under a certain age, and do not meet the requirements as an independent than you have to use your parent's income.  If you do not know which school you would like to attend, then you can choose multiple schools on your application.  It is a fairly simple process.  Make sure you fill everything out correctly, and it will take a couple of days for them to process it.  You can apply for a pin to electronically sign your FAFSA with which is convenient.  You need to decide which school you would like to go to and contact the admissions process.  They will guide you through the admission process, and then the financial aid office will take over your FAFSA results from there and determine how much you qualify for.
