I kinda understand what "sociological imagination" is, but I don't have a clue how to apply it to evaluating my future endeavors. Can someone please give me an idea on how I can approach this?

  1. One of the simpler explanations i have ever come across for the sociological imagination was that it is the intersection of biography, history and society. Now unless you reflexive adopt this on yourself, it will be useless in teh context you are attempting to. However it should not be that difficult to maybe make some guesses about how the sociological imagination, if more completely developed could influence some of your future endeavors.

Try to look at your personal biography in the context of what you think the future might be like. How might the world look in the timeperiod you are discussing. Once youve placed yourself in that notion, try to think about how society will be shaped in teh same period, after all it may not be that different than as it is right now (assuming the future is a idea that can be either in the short or long term). It might just be a process of connecting the dots.

  2. developing a sociological imagination means recognizing that personal issues/circumstances are not simply caused by individual thoughts or beliefs, but are related to the greater society as a whole.  private troubles and social constructs cannot exist without eachother.

i'm not sure what kind of endeavors you have in mind, but to plan your life using a sociological perspective on things, you would have to examine what societal norms and limits that influence your choices, both consciously and unconsciously.  once you have identified that, you can then understand what obstacles stand in the way of getting what you want.  anyone can achieve ANYTHING... what usually holds us back from getting what we want are socially constructed expectations of the way people should act.
