Question:

How can I attach this to my wall?

I had an idea to hang up pictures around my room... instead of hanging them on the walls, I'm going to hang pieces of string/thread/ribbon going from one wall to another and hang pictures on it as if it was a clothesline.

I attempted this with ribbon and scotch tape. When I taped the ribbon on the wall, the other side would fall down. When I finally got them both to stay up, I tried hanging a picture on the wall, and the ribbon sagged and fell down again.

Questions:

1) What material should I use for the "clothesline"?

2) How can I attach the "clothesline" to my wall so it won't fall down? (I would rather not have to put up 20 hooks on the walls)

Thanks so much in advance :]

  1. I would suggest thumbtacks, if you don't care about holes in your wall.  Otherwise, I know you don't want to put up 20 hooks, but they have hooks that attach to your wall with rubbery stuff so it doesn't leave holes and such.

There is this cement type thing by the makers of Oxy Clean that holds up to 200 pounds, it's a sort of glue thing that it like a stick of clay.  That would definitely do the job.

Or, and this would be a HUGE project you most likely don't want to do, but my sister did this and it turned out fabulous:  Cover your entire bedroom walls with cork.  Cork board.  You can use thumbtacks and nails and such without leaving holes in the wall, and you can stretch ribbon across that, too, and slip picture in between the ribbon and the wall.

Hope I gave ya some good ideas!

  2. use a cup hook on a stud

may i ask why you are hanging pictures from an indoor clothes line??

  3. From a designers point of view, why clutter up the limited wall space with even more stuff?    It gets too busy looking at all the other stuff.  A bit of blank wall is a resting spot for the eyes.

Would be comparable to reading a book where there are no spaces for indentations or ends of short sentences or thoughts.  It becomes a run on(or blurry) of stuff.

Secondly, if you decide you must picture it use tacks or nails.  It does far less damage than tape(either use it to hold up the string or hold up the pictures individually)

  4. You may want to use heavy fishing line for the clothesline and s***w eye hooks into the wall.Make sure you s***w them into a stud.
