Question:

How can I avoid a young driver surcharge?

I am in the UK and wanting to hire car for this weekend. However, as I am only 23 every car hire company I have looked at adds on a young driver surcharge for under-25s. This pushes the cost up to about £80 which is ridiculous for a 4 day rental period.

I have been driving for 6 years, have no points on my license and have only not owned my own car for the last year. Anyone know a way around this, or any companies that don't charge it?

  1. I'm afraid that the only way round it is to wait 2 years. apparently some of you lot over 25 are a bit reckless, (I'm 28 and still a bit reckless but don't tell anyone)
