How can I avoid getting paint on the new carpet?

We were getting new carpeting all throughout the house, so I saw it as an opportunity to paint my room, without having to worry about getting paint on the carpet.

I re-painted the entire room in my bedroom, walls, skirting boards, window panes, and doors. I skipped the closet although, I don't know why I did..

BUT, now my problem is I need to paint the skirting boards, but that's almost impossible when the carpet is hugging tightly at them, how can I avoid getting paint on the new carpeting? Tape doesn't sound effective at all.. And I really don't want to have to pull out the carpet so soon after they had Just put it in.

  1. okay,  first guy was kinda right....get the 3m blue painters tape and go to like home depot or something and get a drop cloth (you can get a sheet of clear plastic for like $.02 cents a yard..... put the blue tape against the leading edge of the material you buy and place that agaisnt the wall/floor so when the paint drips (if it does) it won't drip on the carpet it will hit the sheet you bought.  hard to explain, but buy the blue tape and tape the sheet from floor to whatever you are painting so you have a drop sheet.  Hope you can make sense of this....good luck!

  2. Get yourself some 2 in wide blue painters tape.  Just slide it between the carpet and the trim.  Take your time and don't take the tape off until you're sure it's dry.  Pull it AWAY from the wall on an angle.
