You know how it says that there's a risk of shock if you open a TV or monitor? What do I need to watch out for so that that does not happen?

Thanks!

  1. Don't plug it in and you won't get shocked....

    That's how I do it....reliably.

Other than that, you WILL get shocked with live circuits.....so don't touch anything while it's alive...

Nothing like accidently touching the HIGH Voltage section and see the BLUE FLASH occur in your eyes....

Then the contractions...and if you're lucky it throws you away from the TV set....

Then you get to lay on the floor for about 2 to 5 minutes while your BRAIN restarts itself and remakes connections to your muscles...

It's not fun the first time....

  2. Discharge the large capacitor in the power supply section. It stores electrical charge even if the TV has been off for a while. You must have a 100 watt bulb connected to a socket with the wires open at the end. Connect the open ends to the positive and negative terminals of the capacitor to discharge. If you can't do this, use a s***w driver to short the positive and negative terminals. Make sure you hold the handle and not the metal part or better wear gloves. Be prepared for sparks though. Remove the high tension wire from the monitor and short it in the back section (ground) of the tv or monitor.

If this instruction is beyond your understanding, i suggest you let a technician do the job for you. After all, why would you open a tv or monitor if you don't know anything about electronics repair.

  3. If you are not a tech, pull the plug first and let it sit awhile.
