Far more frequent than cared for,I'm required to sign in.It's almost like having to unlock the bedroom door when no one is here but me,even though the house opens with only the one key in my possession.

  1. check th "remember my password " option

  2. There are several different reasons that you need to sign in so frequently, being:

    1. Your computer just turned on-

If you don't want a password for your entire system, push start and click the image next to your computer username. Then click "Back" (topleft), "Remove Password", and enter your current password.

    2. Your computer just came back from a screensaver-

Right click your desktop, click properties. Move to the screensaver tab and make sure that "On resume, display welcome screen" is not checked.

    3. Your computer just came back from a standby-

Same as for the screensaver, but on the same screensaver page click "Power..." under monitor power. Move to the advanced tab and make sure the checkbox for "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby" is not checked.

Those are all the reasons that I am aware of that the system would ask for your password.  As for "being prey", with a proper firewall and antivirus, you should do fine without a system password, in my opinion.
